The first step for creating the animation was to draw all of the elements on a textured background that I thought best fit the object. This is The Cunninghams apartment drawn with sharpie on the inside of a cardboard box.

On the lower panel, you can see the desert mountains that are used throughout the animation.

Using Adobe Animate to lip sync Miguels character on a transparent background. The purple texture is added in After Effects. Adobe Animate was also used for some of the drawings of the elements in order to create a texture that was different from a hand drawn image.

Bringing everything into After Effects where the elements for the animation were masked or "cut" out, like a digital collage. Using 3D space and camera movement to create a deep environment  on the screen.

Some of the images were drawn in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to mix up different looks and textures.

SFX are added in Audition where Miguels VO goes through it's own process.

Finally, everything is brought into Adobe Premiere where some final changes are made and the final export is made.

Drinking Black Coffee

Steve Crandall owns and operates an American made bicycle manufacturer, FBM. He is a full time creator.
A person’s motivation reveals a lot about them. I wanted to find out more about what motivates the one and only Steve Crandall, beyond what we know of him with FBM.

Always creating and enjoying things with the community that he surrounds himself with, Crandall’s intentions through life are pure, and his actions reflect that. He holds BMX values as a foundation and that spreads into every aspect of his life. Whether he’s coasting a big bike down a hill, digging in the dirt, or painting a coffee cup, it all comes from the same place and for the same reasons.

This short film was shot in early April 2018 and documents Crandall in Richmond VA dealing with his first ever solo art show, and his preparation for the show 6 hours north in his hometown of Ithaca NY
